Winter’s coming. That means surf at El Porto!

Any discussion of LA Surf Spots certainly would need to include El Porto…

Our friend in the South Bay Mark Rocchio has been on the scene with his GoPro for some time now. Check out his channel on Youtube and this nice day out at a “secret” sandbar lineup last winter.

Ahh, last winter!……. (Dear Santa, please bring us a winter like last winter.)

If this winter will fall into the “La Nina” category, what is the letter of credence for less swell in SoCal? I’m curious as to how this can affect overall conditions as well as potential size…

La Nina years don’t necessarily mean small surf seasons, and from personal experience I’ve seen it good here in Cali during “La Nina”. That said, what often happens is we see storm tracks that are too steep to properly hit the Socal coastlines. Last winter, “El Nino” we saw an abundance of westerly swells, hitting the coast just fine from LA to Santa Barbara, all the way down to San Diego. I’m expecting more “Santa Ana” wind days and more steep NW swells. Might be spending more time up at SilverStrand and less time at all the great pointbreaks in LA and SB…

Sigh…thought there might be a wave whisperer I was unaware of. Thx!
